A Parent’s Guide to Schools in Cambrian, San Jose

If you’re thinking about moving to Cambrian, there’s a good chance schools are one of the reasons it’s on your list.

Cambrian has long been a favorite with families, thanks to its quiet neighborhoods, community feel, and well-regarded schools. One thing that makes this area a little easier to navigate is that most of the neighborhood is served by the same elementary school district, so the school picture is a bit more straightforward than it is in many other parts of San Jose.

Here’s what you should know.

Cambrian School District

Most families in Cambrian are served by the Cambrian School District, which covers kindergarten through eighth grade.

The district includes:

  • Bagby Elementary
  • Fammatre Elementary
  • Farnham Charter Elementary
  • Sartorette Charter Elementary
  • Steindorf STEAM Magnet K–8, a popular school with a focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math
  • Price Charter Middle School

One of the things families often appreciate about Cambrian School District is its strong sense of community. Active PTAs, school events, and parent involvement help create a welcoming environment, and many residents stay connected to the district for years.

Like many California school districts, Cambrian has faced budget challenges over the years, but the community has consistently supported its schools through local funding measures that help maintain facilities and student programs.

High School

After eighth grade, students move into the Campbell Union High School District.

Depending on where you live, your assigned high school will typically be either:

  • Westmont High School
  • Del Mar High School

Both schools are well-established and offer a variety of academic programs, athletics, clubs, and extracurricular activities.

One thing to remember is that high school boundaries are based on your specific address—not simply the fact that you live in Cambrian. That’s why it’s always important to verify school assignments before purchasing a home.

What About the Charter Schools?

You may notice that a few Cambrian schools include the word charter in their name.

That sometimes causes confusion.

These schools are still part of the Cambrian School District—they aren’t separate independent charter schools. For most families, they function much like the district’s other neighborhood schools while offering their own unique educational approach.

Why Families Love Cambrian

One of Cambrian’s biggest strengths is consistency.

Families appreciate having a close-knit elementary and middle school district, neighborhood schools with active parent involvement, and an easy transition into the Campbell Union High School District.

Combined with the neighborhood’s parks, tree-lined streets, and central location, it’s easy to see why Cambrian continues to be one of the most popular areas for families in San Jose.

Buying a Home With Schools in Mind

If schools are one of your top priorities, I always recommend verifying the assigned schools before making an offer.

Even within the same neighborhood, attendance boundaries can change from one street to the next—especially when it comes to high schools.

If you’re considering a move to Cambrian, I’d be happy to help you understand the school boundaries, compare neighborhoods, and find a home that’s the right fit for your family’s goals.
