Moreland School District: A Guide for San Jose Homebuyers
If you’re considering buying a home in West San Jose or the surrounding area, you may come across properties located within the Moreland School District.
Moreland School District currently serves approximately 3,700 students from preschool through eighth grade across four elementary schools, two TK–8 schools and one middle school. The district has a long history in the area, dating back to 1851.
For homebuyers, however, there’s something especially important to understand:
Never assume a particular home is assigned to a specific school based on its neighborhood, ZIP code or real estate listing.
School assignments are address-specific and should always be verified directly with the school district.
Elementary Schools in Moreland School District
The district’s four elementary schools are:
- Anderson Elementary School
- Gussie M. Baker Elementary School
- Country Lane Elementary School
- George C. Payne Elementary School
Students attending these elementary schools generally feed into Moreland Middle School for grades 6–8, according to the district’s current enrollment information.
TK–8 Schools in Moreland School District
Moreland currently has two schools serving students through eighth grade:
Latimer School — TK–8
Easterbrook Discovery School — TK–8
The district confirms that both Latimer and Easterbrook Discovery serve middle-school grades in addition to elementary grades.
Moreland Middle School
Moreland Middle School serves grades 6–8.
Students from Anderson, Baker, Country Lane and Payne are generally enrolled at Moreland Middle School for sixth grade, subject to district enrollment policies and individual circumstances.
How Do You Know Which Moreland School a Home Is Assigned To?
This is particularly important when you’re searching for a home.
According to Moreland School District, a student’s home school is determined by the home address. The district provides an online school locator that buyers can use to research an individual property.

Even after using an online locator, I recommend confirming school information directly with the district before making a home-purchase decision.
The district also notes that enrollment at a school of residence can be affected by capacity. In some circumstances, a student may be placed at another district school.
