800 N 8th Street #311: Japantown San Jose Loft Tour

If you’ve been looking at lofts in Japantown San Jose, you’ve probably noticed that the word “loft” can mean very different things from one property to another.

Some are almost entirely open. Others offer more separation between living and sleeping spaces.

And then there are floor plans like 800 N 8th Street #311.

This Japantown condo offers something a little different: two enclosed bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional loft space, along with the high ceilings and dramatic windows buyers often associate with loft-style living.

The property has since sold, but it’s still a great home to tour—especially if you’re considering buying a condo or loft in San Jose’s 95112 area.

Inside 800 N 8th Street #311

Located at 800 N 8th Street in San Jose, Unit 311 offers approximately 1,399 square feet of living space.

The building was constructed in 2004, and this particular floor plan includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms and the additional loft.

One of the first things you’ll notice is the natural light.

Two-story windows extend upward toward the loft and help create the open feeling that makes this style of home distinctive.

But what I particularly like about this floor plan is that you don’t have to choose between openness and bedroom separation.

A Loft With Two Enclosed Bedrooms

This is what makes Unit 311 interesting.

Traditional lofts can offer dramatic ceilings and large open spaces, but an extremely open floor plan isn’t necessarily practical for every buyer.

Here, you still get the loft aesthetic while having two enclosed bedrooms.

Then there’s the additional loft upstairs.

That extra space gives you flexibility without having to turn one of the home’s bedrooms into something else.

Depending on your needs, you might envision it as a home office, workout area, reading space, hobby room or another flexible living area.

And that’s something worth considering when comparing condos:

Don’t just look at the total square footage. Look at how usable that square footage is for you.

The Updated Kitchen

The kitchen was refreshed with a waterfall quartz countertop and updated backsplash, giving the space a more contemporary look.

Because the kitchen connects with the main living area, it also becomes part of the visual experience of the home rather than being tucked away.

When you’re touring a condo, I recommend looking beyond the finishes and thinking about function too.

Is there enough storage?

How much usable counter space do you have?

How does the kitchen connect to the dining and living areas?

Those details can make a big difference once you’re actually living in the space.

The Primary Suite

The primary suite includes a walk-in closet and attached bathroom.

The bathroom was also refreshed with updated tile, flooring, countertops and sinks, along with a deep soaking tub.

The second bedroom has access to another refreshed bathroom.

For buyers comparing lofts and condos, having two actual bedrooms and two bathrooms can make a floor plan considerably different from a traditional open loft configuration.

The Bonus Loft Space

Head up the spiral staircase and you’ll find the feature that really separates this unit from many conventional condos: the loft.

It’s open to the living area below, allowing the tall windows and ceiling height to remain part of the overall design.

And it’s flexible.

Maybe you want a dedicated workspace without giving up a bedroom.

Maybe you’d rather create a workout space.

Or perhaps you simply want another area to read, relax or pursue a hobby.

There’s no single “correct” use for a flexible space like this.

That’s part of its appeal.

A Private Balcony Overlooking the Trees

Unit 311 also includes a private balcony with a view toward the trees and nearby park. Listing information identifies the property as adjacent to Raymond Bernal Jr. Memorial Park, which includes recreation areas and walking/jogging space.

For condo buyers, I always recommend thinking about outdoor space in practical terms.

Would you actually use the balcony?

How private does it feel?

What does it overlook?

Those details can be difficult to judge from listing photos alone, which is another reason video and in-person tours are so useful.

About the 800 N 8th Street Building

The 800 N 8th Street condominium building was constructed in 2004 and contains 66 residences, according to Michelle’s neighborhood guide. Some of the third-floor units feature vaulted ceilings and loft spaces.

And this is a building I know particularly well.

I’ve worked in Japantown real estate for more than 20 years, and I’ve personally lived and owned at 800 N 8th Street. I’ve also represented buyers and sellers within the building.

That experience matters because when you’re considering a condo, you’re buying more than the space inside your front door.

You’re also buying into a homeowners association and a shared property.

Buying a Japantown Condo? Don’t Forget the HOA

This is one of the biggest differences between purchasing a condo and buying many detached single-family homes.

Before purchasing, buyers should carefully review the HOA documents made available during the transaction.

Depending on the property and documentation provided, that may include information concerning:

  • HOA dues
  • Budget and financial information
  • Reserves
  • Insurance
  • Governing documents
  • Rules and restrictions
  • Meeting minutes
  • Planned projects
  • Assessments

Don’t evaluate a condo based solely on its purchase price and monthly HOA dues.

Understanding the HOA itself is part of understanding what you’re buying.

What Did 800 N 8th Street #311 Sell For?

Unit 311 sold on November 7, 2025 for $710,000.

That’s useful information for buyers researching the building—but don’t treat one past sale as the value of another unit.

Even within the same condominium building, sale prices can differ based on floor plan, floor level, condition, renovations, views, parking, location within the building and current market conditions.

That’s why recent comparable sales within the same complex can be particularly valuable when you’re evaluating a condo.

What Are Homes at 800 N 8th Street Selling for Now?

This is where this page can become much more valuable than a typical old listing post.

Market conditions change.

If you’re considering buying or selling at 800 N 8th Street, don’t rely solely on what Unit 311 sold for in 2025.

Look at the most recent sales in the building and compare them with current listings.

For example, Michelle continues to list and market properties within the complex, and you can explore the latest 800 N 8th Street properties and Japantown real estate.

That keeps this page useful even years after this particular unit sold.

Living in Japantown San Jose

Of course, buyers considering 800 N 8th Street aren’t evaluating the unit in isolation.

They’re also considering whether the location works for them.

The building is located in San Jose’s historic Japantown area, near neighborhood businesses, restaurants, community events and parks.

Rather than relying on someone else’s description of what it’s like to live here, I always encourage buyers to explore an area themselves.

Visit at different times.

Walk around.

Try the restaurants.

Check your commute.

Explore the parks and businesses.

Then decide whether the location fits your priorities and lifestyle.
